An artist is surrounded by beauty and that is what you find when you step into Shweta Khandelwal‬’s home in Baner, Pune. Dotted with creative, colourful artefacts and paintings made by the artist herself, every space in her house is a visual delight!
Meet #ShwetaKhandelwal of ‘Shades N Strokes’‬ who paints, sketches and creates magic through paper weaving!
Shweta worked with ICICI Bank before quitting her job to look after her son. During her sabbatical, she rekindled her romance with art and started exploring various art forms. Experimenting with art and craft, she chanced upon newspaper weaving, an art wherein you take your old newspaper and recycle it into something that can be used in your house! This paper rolled into tubes can be used to create baskets, boxes, pen stands and various other interesting artefacts. Shweta has mastered this art form and has created many interesting pieces from it. She enjoys replicating complicated structures with the paper tubes. Sometimes it takes her days of painstaking effort just to get the shape and form right, but Shweta has no complaints she enjoys her passion and takes immense pride in her creations. Shweta’s keen sense of colour combination lends these pieces of art a colourful and attractive look!
Not the one to keep her secrets to herself, Shweta takes morning classes for paper weaving at her place that see many ladies in full attendance enjoying the intricate art of paper weaving.

Shweta has also designed basic and advanced courses and would like to conduct them at various locations across Baner. Paper Weaving is a good way of recycling and reusing newspaper and is also a stress busting activity. Even teenaagers can take it up as a hobby!
Apart from newspaper weaving Shweta makes hand painted wall clocks for children using their favourite characters as the backdrop! Be it Dora or Mc Queen or Chota Bheem and his cronies all of them find a place on your timepiece! You can place an order for these exquisite clocks or you can pick them up directly from her. Last year she sold as many as 25 pieces during Diwali and got a great feedback from the buyers!

Creativity has no constraints, and you can find Shweta trying out various other art forms. Her intricately painted Warli pots and decorative Shiv and Ganesh paintings are also equally beautiful and deserve a mention here.
So if you are looking to learn a creative art form or just want to beautify your home with some handcrafted pieces, look no further. Just call Shweta and visit her beautiful abode in Baner and witness some exquisite artefacts!
